It's quite often that people will refuse to accept Christ as their Saviour because they have personal or emotional problems with what the Bible says. This usually stems from ignorance of the context, or a lack of understanding or misinterpretation of a certain verse or passage. It's important to remember that whenever a person and The Bible disagree on something, the person is wrong because The Bible is the very word of God, and you can't improve on God (though many chruches have tried). The thing to remember is that God knows everything, you don't. Also, don't just assume that Bible says something because a freind/relative told you so. How do you know they weren't misinterpreting it?
Others may have a problem with the way Christians act. God commands us to be differnet from the world (1 Jn. 2:15-17). The wordly person hates God's ways (John 15:18-27), so it's not surprising that they will scoff at Christian behaviour.
Some people say that they won't become Christians because there are Christians in the Church. While it is true that there are hypocrites in the Church, this has nothing to do with the truth of the Bible. They are dishonest and hypocritical inspite of what the Bible says, not because of it. The same goes with spiritual abuse and legalism. It is important to make sure you judge a person's actions by what the Bible says before you label it as "Christian behaviour". If they are acting according to what the Bible says, then there is no problem. If they are in error, then tell them about it and pray for them. If they really care about loving Jesus, then they'll correct themselves. It is important to find a Bible believing church, like an Independant Fundamental Baptist Church.
