Christianity is not a religion but a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Religion is a man made system of rules and regulations that tries to reach up to God and impress him. Christianity is just the opposite, it's God reaching down to us so that we may have salvation by his grace. Religion is a false concept of salvation by works, Christianity is true salvation by God's grace through our faith. Religions are hierarchies with central governing bodies, a system that has lead to gross corruption. All Protestant and Catholic denominations are set up like this. The local church as Christ set it up is to be a independent and autonomous body governing itself after the New Testament example. There is no example or reference in the New Testament of a "denomination" which has a higher headquarters which rules over local churches. The New Testament says nothing about heirchies (see bible-truth.org/church.htm). Independant Fundamental Baptist churches follow the New Testament example (http://bible-truth.org/Fundbapt.htm). Many scoff at the fact that Christianity is not a religion because they have been taught that it is by a secular world that distorts and destroys truth in the name of "tolerance". Christianity is called a religion so we don't offend anyone else. Also, most people today think of Christianity as a religion because they are ignorant of truth, and of God's love for them. That is why it is important to pray for society. For more information: www.lovethetruth.com/truth_about_religion.htmwww.thewhyman.jesusanswers.com/about.html
