I don't know why people put bumper stickers on their cars. It isn't clever. It isn't inspiring. What it is is obnoxis. I don't care who you supported in the election, or that your child is on the honour role. It isn't crucial that I know who you do/don't brake for, nor your position on Tibet. If you think you're so profoud with a little blurb on the back of your Ford, you're sadly mistaken. People aren't stoping and thinking to themselves "My, what an insightful observation," they're thinking of beating you senseless. Most bumper stickers just preach to the choir, meaning the only people who will like it or try to remember it will be the same people who already agree with your point of view. No one is going to have an epiphany because of some catch phrase on the tail of a Mazda.
I espically can't stand "Christian" bumper stickers, simply because it cheapens the faith. How long has that Jesus/Darwin fish war been going on? For crying out loud, how long before that becomes an armed conflict? I understand the desire to express your relationship with God, but there are better ways to do that. Pass out tracts, start a Bible study group, anything but that! Modern Christianity is too consumer-oriened, when it should be a devout obedience to and reverence for God and his word. The Bible is not a book catch phrases, stop trying to make it one. Please stop thinking you can evangelize by sticking a 4X12 piece of cheaply produced adhesive on your bumper. If anything, you're only producing fodder for all those juvenile skeptics out there who think that they're being profound and clever by producing parody bumper stickers.
So to conclude, knock it off already! Most bumper stickers I've seen are immature, unfunny, ignorant and downright lame! UNfortunatly, things are only going to get worse with all those wannabe salesman on Cafepress turning every "genious" thought of theres into a T-shirt. Stop the visual pollution!
