Many unbelievers I've met have resorted to several logical fallacies to justify their unbelief (and I'm not whitewashing, it's a personal observation). One such tactic is to appeal to personal expierence by claiming unbelief because of the actions of one or many people who claimed to be Christian. This kind of logic is just ridiculus. True Christianity is outlined in and defined by the Bible, not the actions of those who claim to follow it.
Whenever you're unsure of whether a Christian's actions are biblical, just ask yourself if there is really Biblical support for their doings (check to see if they misquote a verse or passage). If the Bible doesn't support their actions, then they are not acting in accordance with true Christianity. The problem is that many folks are ignorant of what the Bible really says, and will get their impressions of Christianity from those around them (who may be hypocritics, apostates, legalists, charismatic loonies, or another "Christian" group that does not even follow the Bible).
If you have had had a negative expierence with a supposed Christian in the past, be they hypocrites or legalists or abusers, I assure you that God is not pleased with them, and that they do not reflect true biblical teaching.
