Normally I'm not one to defend Focus on the Family and their heretical "Christian Psychology," but this particular item gives me a great opportunity to expose the spin and dishonesty of the mainstream media.
It has been widely reported for the past three weeks that Dr. James Dobson of the Focus on the Family foundation opposed a new video by the We are a family foundation featuring popular children's characters like SpongeBob, Big Bird, Barney the Dinosaur, the Muppets, Dora the Explorer, Bob the Builder, Winnie the Pooh, Clifford the Big Red Dog, Jimmy Neutron, and more. We are a family is a supporter of homosexual activism, and their web site encourages children to sign a "tolerance pledge" that includes "sexual orientation". Dr. Dobson never once accused SpongeBob or any other character of being gay (as is widely reported), but was concerned that the foundation was using these popular icons to attract young childern to promote the liberal, homosexual agenda. More information can be found here family.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/family.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=17669, but remember, I neither support nor endorse Dr. Dobson's theological views (I'll explain in a later post).
It just goes to show you that the mainstream media can't be trusted. It's just using this whole incident to beat the "religious right" boogeyman around the bush.
What do I think? I am concerned that popular cartoon characters are being used to lure children to support liberal causes, but I also like SpongeBob. I don't know why, I can relate to Squidward. I don't like the We are a family video one bit. It's poison in a pretty package.
