Back in the eighties as bin Laden was just a spoiled rich kid turned CIA trained freedom fighter, another, more sinister terrorist organization had its own plans for world domination. This organization was the brain child of a man enraged by the death of his brother and his paranoia of "big government and big business" trying the keep the "little guy down". This man dreamed of a group that would "wrap itself around the entire world like a cobra." So in the late 70's in the small American town of Springfield, a one time used car salesman and his son Billy found an organization dedicated to usurping the government, and creating it's own, that group was Cobra, and he was their Commander. At first the society made its way through extortion and petty acts of terrorism. Then in 1982 the group went global, subverting third world governments and assisting rebellions, securing footholds in some of the world' most troubled sandboxes. With the terrorist known as the Baroness as it's information officer, and a known assoiation with the arms dealer Destro, Cobra had coiled itself every continent on the face of the earth, and had even established itself in space. Cobra had achieved a truck load of scientific accomplishments in its recent history. It had cloned an "emperor," Serpentor from the DNA of history's greatest tyrants. It had managed to create it's own nation by blasting a piece of land from a faultline in the Gulf of Mexico (thanks to GI Joe, an offshoot military organization dedicated to fighting terrorism, but quickly became an exclusive anti-Cobra force). Not to mention private space flight, and a brief alliance with the robotic, alien tribe called the Decepticons. Cobra's greatest assets are its highly advanced technology, such as the HISS tanks and copters. They are also rumored to have android soldiers. The Cobra threat is very real, and very active. Though at this time, the attention given to Al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations has left them in the shadows, where they continue to plot their next move.
