To quote Romans 3:10-18 "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: Their feet are swift to shed blood: Destruction and misery are in their ways: And the way of peace have they not known: There is no fear of God before their eyes."
Everyone born a sinner, myself and other fundamentalists included. I'm no better than anyone else. To think otherwise would be self-rightenousness, which the Bible condemns in Romans 2:1-29. Some so-called Christians are self-righteous, but this is just plain unscriptural. The difference between Christians and everyone else is that we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior who died for our sins. Because of this, we don't have to go to hell.
Also, saying that something is wrong/evil does not mean I think I'm better than the people who practice it. It just means I'm taking a stand for what the Bible says. It's not the believer that's superior to the unbeliever, it's the narrow path that's superior to the broad one.
Yes there are Christians who think they are better than everyone else, but what does this have to do with biblical Christianity? Jesus ate with sinners, so I'll do the same.
It may also be that the person who accuses Christians of being "holier-than-thou" because they know they are at fault, but don't like the idea of changing their ways because it gives them carnal pleasure. Then again, it could be because they believe that a Christian exposing the error of their ways is suggesting that the Christian is better than them.
Ironically, people who use the "holier-then-thou" excuse usually think they're better than Christians. Believe me, the internet is full of 'em!
