Hi Johnny,
This may sound a little unusual but......I tell people I never met a man who was not a Bible scholar! The point is that so many people make silly judgments about the Bible, yet do not know what they are talking about. Everyone thinks they are a Bible scholar....such as your classmate! Few have ever even read the Bible and all they are doing is quoting what they heard somebody else say. They know little or nothing about the Bible.
When someone makes a statement like this one....you ask them...... "OK, show me in the Bible where it gives 2 or 3 different answers to the same question and we will discuss it." You should put them on the spot and make the show you from the Bible what they are talking about. You will then see....what they really know.
See the point.....most times that is the last you will hear from them. By the way...the God does not contradict Himself....and that is what these uninformed people are actually trying to say.
Take care.
