Of course I am! Any scientist will tell you that truth is narrow, better yet, the LORD Jesus Christ declaired truth to be narrow in Matthew 7:14 "Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." The truth is that the facts will always favour one side, and that side is God's. I do read things by people I don't agree with, and I may learn something from them, but I refuse to believe anything that contradicts the Bible. Besides, you need to have the right convictions, other wise you'll fall for every stupid idea that comes along and never take a stand for anything!
However, there is one thing we should be open to, and that is to be corrected by the word of God. When I was an apostate I allowed God to open my heart and mind to him and him alone and compare my worldly ideas to the Bible. I corrected myself accordingly and never went back. So to sumarise, open your heart and your mind to God alone and narrow it to the world.
As for the charge of being simplistic, this is just ignorant! God has made his plain truth to be simple and easy to understand so that all may know it and come to know him, it is the world that complicates matters beyond point. However, I will say that to simplify matters beyond any other standards than God's absolute truth (through politics for example, or philosophy), is wrong. The Bible is also able to present a simple and understandable view of man without being simplistic. That is why it appeals to both the learned and the lowly.
