"I agree that some who call themselves fundamentalists are often crude and offensive. Some are not really well informed or educated and some who use the title I avoid. However, there are many who are sound biblically and scholarly men who love the Lord and are faithful to His word. They use the term fundamentalist to distinguish themselves from the new evangelicals and liberals. Although I use the title.... Basically the main point of contention with the New Evangelicals and liberals is biblical separation. We do not join ourselves to or work with groups, churches or individuals who are doctrinally unsound. We feel that to do so is to compromise God's word, make little of doctrinal error and to support false teachings and practices. We only fellowship evangelistically with other doctrinally sound churches. Because Protestants, Charismatics, Pentecostals, New Evangelical, and liberals have unbiblical beliefs, teachings and practices we label them as doctrinally unsound and separate ourselves from them. Of course they see this as a rebuke....(which it is and truth upheld always rebukes error)....and do not speak well of us.
Some slander us and accuse us of having a "holier than thou" attitude. However, no real biblical fundamentalist would ever act that way. We practical biblical separation in order to uphold truth....and stand for what is God's very word. We are often called "fighting fundamentalists" which denotes our willingness to defend God's word and oppose those who corrupt it. (If you note I put 1 Cor. 16:13-14 on every email I send out)"
"This I will state without reservation. I have yet to find a biblically sound church that followed God's word in all areas that were not fundamentalists. I know that is a sweeping statement. There are many good men and churches that do not call themselves fundamental who are doctrinally sound in most areas.....and I cannot even say that all fundamental churches are completely pure...but I have found that the fundamentalist are the closest to a pure biblical assembly in practice and doctrine.
I do not wear the title as a badge....or use it as a chip on my shoulder. I use it to show I love God's word and will not knowingly compromise it and that I will not turn away from my responsibility to defend God's truth......I would hope even to the death.
